We are looking for a stock exhaust system with preheater for our '26 Chevy Touring. I found one on Kanter.com and I was wondering if anyone else had experience with these or if there was a better place to find one.

Hi Old-Chevyman,

Gary Wallace: Gary Wallace
Gary carries a system that is somewhat correct. I have used several of his systems and the quality of the welds leaves a lot to be desired. These systems are made from iron and have a tendency to rust. Price is $165.00 plus shipping.

Kepich Exhaust: Kepich
I have not used one of these 4-cylinder systems, however I have installed several of his 6-cylinder systems. Quality and fit is better than expected. All the 6-cylinder systems I used were stainless steel and all are still functing with no problems encountered. Price is $200.00 (for the 4-cylinder)shipping included.

Thanks AntiqueMechanic! I will shoot Kepich and E-mail and see what they have to offer. It is good to see that there are companies out there still making parts for our old cars.

If anyone else has experience with other companies or products, please chime in. I am not in a huge hurry to order something.

I have been running a system that as I recall came from Packard Farm a number of years ago. Yes it is steel and yes it rusts, just like the original. If it were an old coin you might say it has that genuine patina. The price was quite reasonable and I understand the company is some sort of offspring of the old Studebaker - Packard Co. Sorry uncle Bill if your couth filter has to **** some of this. Anyway the last phone number from the G&D that I have is
317-462-3124.
The address was 97N 150W, Greenfield, IN 46140

Hi Herb,

The exhaust system you have (Old Packard Farm) is the system that Gary Wallace sells.

The company is now in the hands of the son(?) and quality is not a concern. I have discussed this with Gary and the company. Hopefully, by now the quality has improved. Originally the welds in the system looked as if they were done by someone from Texas using a homemade welder and no helmet.

To see a correct 1925 system take a look at the article in the October 1983 G&D.

Well, I recieved an e-mail back from Kepich and they only sell exhaust for '29 on up. I really do want to get a higher quality product, so it sounds like the gary wallace system is not all that desirable.

So, does anyone have experience with Kanter or any other places that sell aftermarket exhaust?

Hi John,

I have purchased at least three systems from you. Do you have any plans to do any of the Chevrolet 4-cylinder stuff, specifically 1928?

Ray
Ray,
The 4 cyl is $200 post paid. Has the preheater assembly. Thanks, John
The above message is from me to Kepich and a reply from John.

Old_Chevyman I suggest you call them and quote my email. This just doesn't compute. When he says preheater assembly, he is talking about a 4-cylinder system.

ray,

that's good news for you guys...

kepich's number is 800.365.5764...

jack's the owner, john's the long-time employee that runs the shop...be sure to get the price quoted by jack or the office to avoid the issue I had (described in the link "complete exhaust" above)...

Hi Ray,
I had suspected that Gary's source was the same. Unfortunately that's about the only game in town for the four cylinder. I just went out and crawled under my 28 and I would call the weld quality better than original but, as old George G. used to say " You just can't get that kind anymore ". When I replaced my 24 System about 20 years ago I took it to a local muffler shop but the results were just too perfect, however I intend to continue using it if I ever get it running again. I still have the pieces of pipe it came with but they look like a scaled down version of a pot bellied stove of the same vintage.
