Mr Mack,
I am still using a carbon throw out bearing but plan to try a modern style bearing on the next engine.
I just got an e-mail from a Dick Wilson,
one800wgs@aol.com who has three 28 heads except the engines are still attached, doggone !! Each have some accessories, $135 to $150. I'll tell him to post in the Parts for Sale Section.

Oh I hate it when you do not get a chance to spell check! Has anyone seen the picture of Lee Chapel's 111 mph 22 or 23 roadster? Now that ride would be scarry.

Gerber's book. Outlaw Sprint Car Racer by John Gerber. It is his autobiography. ISBN 0-9627653-9-2 It was quite interesting to me how the early sprint car racers lived and some actuly made a living. John goes through the different modifications to his chevy and also talks alot about the copitition. He definatly was a forward looking machanic and savy driver, and aparently never threw anything away. The dust cover on the book is a photo of part of the Gerber display at the Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Iowa. It is definatly wirth seeing. The caretaker said that she thought that they had enough of Gerbers stuff to totaly change the exibit three times. The book and display show that there were defenatly cometive brands other than F--d, contrary to what some people would like you to beleive. If they have changed the exibit from the dust cover and someone gets closeups, I would be interested in swaping photos.

Gaby, I am not new to working on engines and doing a little bit of drag racing, but only since I retired have I started to do more reading than I do knuckle busting.

I appreciate the info, that book seems like one I MUST have.

Hi Gaby,
I believe Ken Kaufmann, Pre25Chev4, has pictures of Lee Chapels 111.11 mph Roadster and also Bob Rufi's 143.54 mph Streamliner ( Dodge Bodied Roadster with tail fairing made of Dope and canvas I believe ) that broke Lee's record on May 10, 1940. Talk about scary !! Several years ago Ken shared with me several letters that Rufi wrote which covered many of the dry lakes activities of the 1930's.

Mr Mack
I know that the Sprint Car Hall of Fame sells Gerber's book, and the NWVS was selling it several years ago, but not sure if they still have any. Retail price was $22.50. May need to be a memder either place.
I guess Rufi crashed his Streamliner in a later atempt. Peterson Publication had an artical on Bob Rufi's car in one of the chevrolet history books that they did, but I do not know which one. I have seen bits of info on some of these cars, but it sounds like much more out there. Somebody said something like- this was the 'little engine that could'.

Herb, just a note, I got an email from Mr. Wilson with the details of his "stuff" I guess he has means to read and send e-mail even when on a trip. I have found that many HoJos (probably other motel chains also)have a internet connection that their motel customers can use free grattis.
Thanks for passing the info on to me...
