Does anyone know what makes the hubs for the rear wheels for a 1928 different from a 1929? Actual measurements (or really good pictures) of a known year would be helpful for me to determine the correct ones to use. Thanks.

Hi 29 Chevy. I got your e-mail. Unfortunately it was not a lot of help. I have this catalog as well as an original 1928 Master parts List and I still cannot be sure of the correct hubs. I actually have a 29 and I think the hubs I have found are 28s. I was hoping someone could provide measurements for rear hubs from a 1929 with wood wheels and a 1928 with woods so I can be sure which hubs I have. Rim size doesn't help as they were gone.
Regards,
Cabboy

The hubs listed in my 4 cyl parts book ( July 1, 1940 ) are 346429 for disk wheel and 946000 for wood wheel. The wood wheel type shows the square holes for carriage head style bolts, disks types take studs. The hubs on my 28 have no threads for hub caps as I am using the later 19" wire wheels and caps, but I don't know the part number. I have been told these hubs used a stamped adapter for the screw on caps.

I've been going through the master parts books I have and it looks like the same hubs were used back to the Superior F series up to and including 1928 for the rears. 1929 had a different part number and 1930 also had a different part number. I've acquired a 1928 masterparts book which more acurately shows the rear hub so now I know which is the 1928 and it uses the stamped threaded cup as you indicated. I still need to find someone who can prodive me with some dimensions of the 1929 rear hub so I can be sure the one I have is correct. It looks like the major change was the deletion of the stamped cup so the threads for the hubcap are part of the hub. The fronts are the same for 1928 and 1929 but 1930 is different.
Thanks very much for your input. If I ever get this sorted out I'm going to create some drawings with accurate information as to usage to help others as well.

I do not have a 28 but I think if some one is in contact with the folks from Australia they could help, as most of the mates down there have Chev Fours Jim Hatton has several, He is a great Chev Four mate. Good luck :)

Here in Canada wood wheels were standard in 1928 and disks were the option so there are a lot of wood wheels lying around (checked out an original 28 at a show last weekend). I'm sure of the 1928 hub that I have, and relatively certian of the 1929 hub as being correct. I'm putting together a 1929 Cabriolet and have the necessary parts to equip it with wood wheels if only I can be 100% certian of the dimensions of this 1929 hub I have.
I'm also curious as to the differences for the 1930 wood wheel hubs. Thanks for your input.

the easiest way to tell the difference is the 29 hub has a counterbore shoulder where the axle lock nut is fitted the 27 and 28 style hubs are machined flat ,we here in Australia where the same as you Canadians wood wheels fitted standard and steel being the option email me if you require dimentions or more info. Thanks Jim, that seems to be what I have. Now for curiousity does anyone know what makes the 1930 wood wheel hubs different for both the front and rear?
