There's a bloke in Sydney (Australia) who reconditions steering boxes (he's a well known VVCAA member), drop me a line and I'll give you his details

Hi John,
I also thought Arvid's answer to your previous question on March 10 was quite interesting. He makes new bushings a thousanth or so off center and then installs them in an orientation such that the clearance between the worm and the worm gear is reduced by a couple of thousandths. This should work great for the straight ahead position but might cause binding in a turn if the worm is badly worn. He also mentions rotating the worm gear which on the early Chevy unlike a sector gear has about 270 degrees of unused teeth to take advantage of. Let us know how you make out, I put in new bushings and rotated the worm gear on my 28 a while back but it only did about half as much good as I'd like.

Thats what I have just done. New steering shaft bushes, and new pittman arm bushes machined 24 thou off centre to move the gear deeper into the worm. Binds slightly, might remake bushes with 10 thou offcentre. Apart from the slight binding, the p/arm movement is non existent.

Glad to hear the off centre bushing solve the play you have in the steering box.
The last modification i have done, are a adjustable off centre bushing in the end off the main steering shaft.
With this, you can move the worm a little, out or in,in the gear.
