Hello everyone,

I'm new here.. I'm from Sri Lanka (I do have a shipping address in USA)

Just a couple of days ago, I bought a very unusual 37' Chevy. Photos attached.

Yes, the front has been modified and the wrong grill fitted... tires too tall and the car is too tall on the suspension. I will correct all that.

Its a Right Hand Drive, 4 door with slant/ flat back (no outisde trunk).

More unusually, it has original dual side mounted spare wheels and an original luggage rack at the back.

The identification number of the car, shown in the documents is XT GA RS 618

GA means Master Deluxe yes ? it does have knee action front suspension.

Which plant does XT mean ?

How rare is this car ? how many would have been made in RHD ? I have read that 2221 of the LHD 4 door master deluxe slant backs were made.

I plan on deleting the side mount setup and going with the single spare on the back.

I need to buy good used front fenders, complete doghouse and running boards. Where can I start looking for those ?

Does anyone on here have a 37 slant back ? even a 2 door ? I need to see the rear spare carrier and if there are any support brackets from inside the car.

Welcome to VCCA Chatter. I can't help you with your serial number question but I suspect the X part has to do with it being an export. I'll move this to a forum with a higher viewership to hopefully get you the info you need.

The sidemounts are something I would encourage you to keep. They are a great asset.

I know what you mean... I too like the concept of dual side mounts but I feel on this car, they look clumsy and out of proportion.

Side mounts look nice on cars where the wheel stays below the top of the hood I feel.

Look at the photo attached... The internet photo of the car in blue is the look I'm looking for.

What do you think ?

. Hi Cee-Jay, I collect low production 1937 Chevys so I thank you for posting photos of your car. My web page is: <http://home.znet.com/c1937/> but it is old and doesn't work well. The production figures I have for the flat back sedan are 2221 verses 144110 for the bustle back sedan with trunk. . I am not sure if these figures include Chevys produced outside the USA. <http://home.znet.com/c1937/Prod.htm>. .
. I have seen a few other 37s with side mounts in ads. Look at the Cantrell woodie on web page <http://home.znet.com/p1937/Wagon.htm> . This was done as the gas tank was under the rear and placing the spare on the tailgate was too darn heavy. Over 40 years ago, I saw a 38 Sedan Delivery with side mounts.
. There should be a Fisher body plate on your cowl that says, "STYLE No. 37 1009 ". If the PAINT No. is 212, the original color is "Danube Dusk.". Fisher plate explanation in photo. .
. How do you open the hoods with side mounts in the way? I had a standard slant back that I sold to Dave Gilbert. .
. Lou .

That is definitely a different grill and radiator shell compared to the US 1937 models.
