I am in the process of buying a 1941 Special Deluxe 2 Dr in excellent condition. It has a 235 engine in it and I have no clue why the engine was changed. The odometer shows 111,XXX miles and looking at the car, it could be accurate. A friend of a friend who has everything old in terms of flat head Fords, bought this car 8-12 years ago and parked it in a warehouse he owns in Tennessee near Memphis. He has driven it about 500 miles since ownership. It has newer wide whitewalls, new carb, new radiator, new front end bushings..etc. and lots of spare parts in the trunk. I'm picking it up maybe next Weds.

It has an apparent well known driving issue and that is the vacuum shift. The current owner says they replaced most of the parts for it but it still does not work as intended. I read a good deal about it and the problems seem to be in setting it up properly. If anyone has a comment, please do so.

I have a show car in a 1955 Chevy 210 Delray that I'm finishing up installing power steering, power brakes, Vintage Air, Dakota Gauges, Ididit steering column and wheel. I have a torsion bar for the front end and power disk brakes for a project soon. It's a jewel!

The guy I bought this from has 3 Chevy 6 cylinder engines he'd sell...cheap. One 235 and two 216s. Let me know if anyone's interested.

So, that's it for my introduction to this forum and I hope to chat with some of you soon.

Welcome to VCCA Chatter. Post your technical questions in the technical forums and you'll find knowledgeable folks willing to help. I have no experience with the vacuum assisted shift mechanism but have seen a number of threads on the subject over the years. You might search the forums for answers. Below is a link to how to use the search function.

Well, thanks for the response. I just bought a copy of the shop manual that will most likely help. Factory shop manuals sometime make you say "wait, what?"

Welcome to the VCCA Chatter. Hundreds of years of accumulative knowledge resides here. Many with over 50 years messing with old Chevys. Most will try to help keep them on the road. There are a couple of grumps that you can ignore.

The repair manuals will answer many questions and give procedures. They were written decades ago so the terms and descriptions may not at first be understood. Read the sections a couple of times and they will start to make sense. If not come back here and we will try to translate into 21st century lingo.

Welcome 2-10,

On your vacuum shift questions, I'd suggest simply Googleing them. If you tag on the end of your question "VCCA", it'll dig into the archives for you. You can also tag on something like "forums" and it'll take you to a variety of forums about it.

I'm interested in your guy with the 216s for sale. Can you reply to this thread with that info or Private Message me with it?

Thanks,

Jake

An update to taking possession of the car. We’re having trouble getting a title for it, but one of our forum members led me to the proper office to make it happen. I just need to get the documents signed and sent off. It isn’t a big deal that I don’t have it yet since it’s too cold to be working on it for now. I have been buying parts off of eBay and other places of parts I will probably need so that when I do get it, I can start immediately.

You folks on this forum are awesomely knowlegable and I feel like I will know more about this old car thant most when I am finally able to start in earnest making it mine.
