Go ahead and snicker. My car is a daily driver but I like the look of white wall tires. I just can't bring myself to pay $300 + per tire. I did use them back when I was in high school about a hunnnert years ago. Anyone using them?

Thanks, Pete

I have used them in the past and was satisfied with them but have real whitewalls on the car now.
Like you I used them in high school but that was 1962 or before! LOL I did have them on my 37 for awhile.

One weird characteristic of some porta-walls was their tendency to stand out from the tire at speed. This happened if they were not very stiff. Once the oncoming air from the front of the car lifted one edge the centrifugal force from the wheel rotating took over.

I had a set on an early 60’s car. They obviously were pretty cheap and thin. One day I was having the tires balanced with an “on the car” balancer. They even stood out then.

I've heard/read far more complaints about porta-walls than complements. I have no personal experience with them.

How about the 40s-50s accessory whitewall discs? The earlier ones were metal and the later ones were plastic

The after market were metal and the GM and Mopar were plastic.

Get yourself a good set of real whitewalls. I've heard that money is just a detail.

Best,
