My 1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster Woodie needs to have the 2nd & 3rd gear synchros replaced. I’m having a difficult time finding anyone that works on anything that old. Does anyone know of anyone near St Louis Missouri that works on this type transmission? Any help is appreciated.

There is or was a great mechanic on Youtube who went through a 1947 or 1948 and detailed everything he did to it. One item was taking the transmission completely apart and reinstalling it's parts. He posted great videos and talked about what he was doing in detail. Unfortunately I can't remember his website. He was in the mid-west somewhere.

Maybe someone on the Chat will help identify his site for you. I think he lived in Nebraska and used the states motto (Cornhusker, maybe a part of his site ID. Not sure about that.

Also, I think the service manual covers taking the transmission apart and reassembly,

Good luck with it.

Best,

There is a man that uses the handle " Jayhawker " on Youtube......he has lots of videos, and most seem to be about him working on his 1948 coupe . They are very detailed. This might be what Charlie is referring to......

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I rebuilt a transmission for my '41 a few years ago using Jayhawker's videos. I found a donor transmission at the Hershey, PA show and took my time rebuilding it. I took my new synchronizers and associated parts to a transmission shop and they pressed them in for me.
Once rebuilt, I took out the old transmission on a Saturday and put the rebuild one in on Sunday.
It was very rewarding and it still shifts great.
Happy to chat if you have any questions.
