235 engine. Are the slotted screws and bolts for the pan, valve cover and side gaskets painted or bare. I am not building a show car but would like to keep as original as possible.

I believe the engine was painted after it was assembled so all of the fasteners would be engine color. If I'm wrong someone will tell us.

Yes, they were all painted icluding the acorn nuts holding the valve cover down on 1953 and ear;ier.
The exposed area of gaskets were painted and the bell housing was on the engine so it;s bolts were painted
Exhaust and intaked manifolds were bolted to the engine so the were painted also as was the balancer.
