I was told this may be from a 490 Chev? Can anyone identify the year and is it from a Chevy? Thanks Mike

Not for Chevrolet. Chevrolet used Autolite and Remy generators and both drove the distributor . I don't see any place to insert the distributor.

Westinghouse also used square generators, I just dealt with one two years ago on a 1922 Stearns for a friend, as I remember it was driven off of the water pump. The Westinghouse units are very very difficult to find parts for. It sure looks similar to it.
