I have a 1930 Chevy Truck and have found a good, working 6 volt horn, but it is from a Model A. I know Model A's were positive ground. Can anyone confirm that this will work in the negative ground Chevy's? Do I just need to wire it in backwards?

In most cases horn construction is a coil that magnetically pulls a metal diaphram which opens the circuit to the coil releasing the magnetic pull, when this happens the diaphram closes the circuit and magnetically pulls the diaphram again, this type it doesnt matter which polarity the battery is as they rely on a oscillating current flow. Another type use a small electric motor that hits a small gear, these maybe polarity sensitive.

A Model A horn will work without problems. It is a motor driven horn.

Even though the Frod "Aaooga" horn sounds like a strangled platypus it may enhance the overall sound quality of the Model A, it degrades a Chevrolet, any Chevrolet.

Good luck with your hunt for good sounding Chevrolet one.

Best.

BTW: See TonyW for a better example of what a Model A Frod horn sounds like.

The tone of most horns can be adjusted from outside the horn itself but those I dont know where the adjustment is, the diaphram type have a screw with lock nut on the back which adjusts the travel of the diaphram changing the tone.
