Hi All
Looking for help or a name of someone who could provide me with help on my paint question.
I am in the proces of restoring my 28chev. (body off) Got it down to bare metal and now it has a couple good coats of primer. Should be ready to apply top coat/color over the holidays. (in lacqure for sure!!)
The window offsets are Dunsmuir Grey. I can see the previous original color. How did they do the offsets?? The only way I can guess is that they first painted the offset area in Dunsmuir because I can see the overspray on the inside of the door window area. I see no Faunce green overspray in the window area. Then I guess they taped the offset and did the rest of the car in Faunce Green. Did they really tape every car???? Seems like a long process to use on an assembly line. Would you not feel the paint edge where the Faunce green in over the grey?? They did not top coat with a clear to hide the edge did they??
Anyone have the correct color for the Golden Yellow pinstripe??
Thanks for your anticipated response. mromano

The offsets can be painted either first or last. If painted first then the tape (yes they taped them) would go on the inside of the groove. It will give an edge facing inward that is not as evident as if it faced outward. Or you can paint them last and then tape on the outside of the groove. Since each body was rubbed with pumice blocks to smooooooth the paint and then polished some of the edge likely would have been removed. Yes it was a lot of hand work but that is the way it was done. No reflow solvent and curing ovens back in 1928. And they were hand striped. No striping wheels or tape. Oh ya, they were painted with hand held spray guns hooked to a large paint pot no robots nor power coating either.

The "offsets" are the depression around the windows. There is a ledge just where the flat panel meets the window opening. This ledge is where the color is 'broken' or changed.
