Can someone help me ID these washers and where they go. Bag was marked for rear gas tank apron (book calls it a "rear cross member cover") Washers are 1 1/8 across, 1/4" thick and 3/8" hole. any help would be appreciated/ Car is a 32 4 dr. special.

As I recall, they go between the rear apron and the frame cross member as spacers. Two of the NF thread bolts pass through them horizontally and screw into the threaded holes in the rear cross member. If you attach the two tabs at the front of the apron to the frame and then lie on your back and look up, you'll see that there is a gap between the apron and the cross member at the rear. Those thick washers fill that gap to keep you from deforming the rear apron as you tighten up the bolts.

Hope that helps.

All the Best, Chip

Chip, I was asked in a PM and couldn’t remember but have been thinking about it and I remembered that is where they go. They go behind the pan at the two outside lower pan bolts.

Yes, that's how I remember it. You may need to also check the bolts further out toward the fenders to see if they need to be shimmed up to avoid bending the apron when you tighten them down. They're the ones that the bumperette brackets bolt up to.

All the Best,

Chip

Thanks for the help Chip. Do lock washers go under the bolts?

Yes. If you look in the Master Parts Price List in the "REAR CROSS MEMBER COVER" section of "Sheet Metal", you'll see that a 3/8" shakeproof lock washer, P/N 115549 goes on the bolts. It's on page 93 of the edition effective August 1, 1932.

It's amazing what you can learn from the MPPL.

I believe the washers go behind the two outside holes where the bumperettes bolt. I just put the bumpers on the back of the 30’ I’m working on and the apron needed the washers under the apron. The two center bolts (marked #1) didn’t require them when bolting up the spare tire bracket.

Many Thanks to both of you for your help. I'm getting the frame ready as I plan to install the body in 2 weeks (final installation).

That could be, Ted…it’s been a long time since I fitted mine. But do remember that the rear aprons are different between ’29 (has hole for mechanical gas gauge), ’30 (no hole for gas gauge), and ’31-’32 (new design with indent and moldings). Nhinchas: I’d say just have a look at the gap once the rear apron and the front two bolts are in place and snugged down and shim it out with washers accordingly.

Yes, they are all different. When I went to put the bumpers on there was definitely a gap on the back side of the apron at each outside bolt hole. I had already mounted the spare tire bracket with no washers and no distortion of the apron. This is a 30’ and possibly other years are different.
