I am missing the the rod between wiper switch link grommet and the trico grommet and have to make one. Where does the switch knob point to when the wipers are off? Is it straight back toward the rear window or toward the driver? The owner manual only says move to the right to activate wipers.
Thanks,
Mike

Take at look at your Owner’s manual to see if that offers any clues. I just looked at the one online. My interpretation is that the pointer is aimed to the rear in the off position.

On my ‘37 the knob does not have a pointer. It only rotates about 1/8 turn from off to full “on”. These wipers are never really on. They just sometimes sweep across the window!

Based on my 1940 parts catalog the motor and control knob for ‘37 & ‘38 are the same parts but the ‘39 parts are different.
