Happy New Year

It's time to dig into this engine.. just repaired the exhaust manifold heat damper with stainless. It will also need new rings and valves.

I'm trying to locate the correct replacement valves, and I'm not sure which valves will fit, due to this odd year of one-off parts in 1936. Which valves fit?

Thanks, Steve

Does anyone know if the 36 FC Standard used the same 30° valves as the 37?

Hi Steve
My info (1929-54 Master Parts) says the valves were the same from 1935-1940.
But... the numbers given are 838437 for intake and 838717 for exhaust.

I don't have direct Chevrolet info on 839412, but from other sources it appears it is the exhaust valve for 1941 up to maybe 1942 and then the number was changed (subbed up) to a different number.
Valves from 1941 and up will not fit the 1935-40 heads.

So... to answer your question... it appears 1937 valves work in your 1936.
But... valve number 839412 will not.

Hope that helps!

Your '36 engine is pretty much the same as a '35 engine on the inside, Crank, Rods, pistons, Camshaft and gears. The head changed in 1935 so late '35 will have same valves, rockers, etc.
Cylinder block, water pump, oil pump and distributor are different. Complete engines for '35/'36 will install in place of one another.
Valves should be easy to find. Stay away from old stock valves if you can. Even some later Chevy valves are easily retrofitted into hour head. Valves that stick to a magnet should be avoided, if possible. I put a set of old stock valves in my 1936 truck and they failed in short order.
Any automotive machine shop should have access to suitable valves. I can help if you like.

Mike

I found some aftermarket valves from the Filling Station, now need to locate a good machine shop in the Milwaukee area
