Firstly I would like to hope every one a safe and better new year ahead us , I was lucky enough to have had the opportunity to purchase a 1927 Capital tourer in very unrestored original (I think ) condition , the story I'm told it came off a property out near me in the central west of New South Wales and it has been stored in a shed for 20 years and spent its life so far out west .
I have just got it home and still spending time looking over it , I will be honest I have worked on many vintage motor cycles but not cars and look forward to starting .
So far the engine number is very dirty hardy visible so far but on the timber floors I still seem to have the tags and one on the side of the driver's seat , seat tag : Capitol Gem 2AA96118 Floor Tag body 10655 Job number 3192 , 2nd ID TAG : GNL546LB 3rd Tag : ANL473LC , I hope some one can help with some information on the car and how to find the information . The idea for me is to keep it as original as it can be .

Rick Firstly welcome to Chatter. Secondly those tags are important in identifying the car though I dont have the information to decipher them but most RHD cars were shipped from Canada not the US so when someone that can decipher the tags mentions a Canadian plant dont be surprised. Tony
Rick welcome to the VCCA! There are some very knowledgeable members on these forums. They, with their wealth of information, have help me a lot. Is that a picture of your 27 tourer? It looks tp be in excellent shape. We would all like to see more pictures after you learn to navigate this forum. Here is a picture of my 25 tourer that has been in our family for 72 years, Again welcome
Tony , John thanks for your reply's and information and yes it is a picture of my 27 tourer and I will post some more pictures when I get used to navigate around and the photo of the 25 tourer is a real Gem John and must be fantastic to know that it has served your family for 72 years . Tony I was surprised to see the tag plates still fixed to the old floor boards as when first looked over the car as the side curtains were covering them .
I may be able to help somewhat with the (seat tag) information. The number 2AA 96118 breaks down as follows:
2 = Tarrytown, New York, USA assembly plant. AA = 1927 Capitol 96118 is the Build sequence number for this body style at the Tarrytown assembly plant, 1927 model run.
Chevrolet recorded the vehicle serial numbers of the last unit built on the last day of each month. The last vehicle built on the last day of September 1927 at the Tarrytown plant for this body style was 90359. The last Tarrytown vehicle built on there last day of October 1927 had sequence number 98854. Those two numbers tell us that Tarrytown assembled 8495 such units during October of 1927. Your unit with build sequence number 96118 tells us that it was number 5759 of the October built units. The number 5759 is 68% of the 8495 October 1927 month builds. We don't know what the work schedules were in 1927, five days, six days, or seven days a week or the number of shifts per day. I estimate your vehicle was assembled/boxed sometime during the third week of October, 1927.
I have no knowledge of the other numbers you have listed but I suspect they have something to do with export/import requirements.
thanks that's great information and you have provided me regarding the 1927 and is much appreciated ,since looking at the tourer photos first I was very interested in purchasing as normal I was warned about the dangers of owning such a old car by well meaning people as soon as I the offer to view the 1927 in person and actually sit in it the deal was done . The well meaning friends who have seen it now have a completely new view on it ( you can never sell that ) kind of gets you in
Those tags would've been placed there when your tourers body was assembled by Holden in 1927.The other 2 tags would be for the paint and trim codes, the information which was destroyed either by Holden or in a fire.My '29 Olds still has all its original tags like you '27 tourer has

CJP'S thanks for your information about our end of the journey and assembly tags , it's also good that your 29 still had the tags as well , I think the history behind them is important to know
