I have a thread on the mechanical post as well about my '33 firetruck not wanting to run when it gets hot. I was thinking it might be the coil not working with the heat.

I do have the electrolock ignition so what would be the best way to check and see if it is the coil? If it happens to be, what are my options to replace the coil, i.e. what modifications will I need to make?

Thanks

If the Engine dies when it gets hot, get another 6 volt coil, can be an aftermarket, and run it. If the Engine stays running when it gets hot then the original coil is bad. good luck in finding another correct Coil!

Pour cool water on the hot coil. Works well to fairly rapidly cool it and restore proper function.

Would an aftermarket coil need a different condenser than the one in the distributor? What is the purpose of the external condenser?

Thanks

No the after market condenser if the correct value would be okay. Only one condenser is needed.
