G&D arrived today. Article about "W" egines was of interest and mentions the "W" as being a 348, 409 and 427. I can not recall a 427 "W" engine. What am I missing? IN general I feel the article has several "facts" the I believe are incorrect. Can't wait to see part 2 next month.

The '62-'63 427, RPO Z11, was made in very low numbers - about 50 - specifically for racing. They were apparently installed in cars that also sported aluminum front end components (fenders, and so on), although some race-purpose 409 cars also had those. Claims of 57 cars have not been substantiated by Chevy records, unfortunately. The engine is based on the 409, with a longer stroke. True Z11s are probably a bit of a unicorn, now. Here's a bit more on the Z11 W-block 427 Chevy..

Well, rest assured, I wasn't one of them. As for the 427, the Z-ll was a pure W series engine, just stroked with larger heads and a two piece intake. Not to be confused with the 427 "mystery engine" which was a completely new design that only shared the pan rail with the W series engines.
