When does it leak ? After driven a distance and you park it -or- when it sits in the garage for a longer amount of time and leaves a big pool?

it does both, after driving it pours out the front and drips as it sits, this car must not have been driven much over the last few years even the new power steering components just let go when i got it and leak like a sieve also, that is being fixed as we speak

I expect that there are VCCA Members in Minnesota who could direct you to reputable transmission shops. Referrals like those are a benefit of VCCA membership.

My best guess is that all the seals and gaskets have dried out and shrunk or cracked from lack of use.

If it leaks after a long drive the front pump seals is usually the problem. Then I would suggst have the unit rebuilt.

if it leaves a pool of oil after setting for a longer period of time there is no fix. This is caused by yhe fluid in the top half of the torque converter draining down and overfilling the sump.
On mine I keep the fluid down at the add line which helps a little.

gene: i agree with your assessment of "pool of oil after setting for a longer period of time--fluid in top half of converter draining down and overfilling the sump". Our old 54 corvette with original cast iron power glide did the same thing, even after two local tranny shops here in cumberland md attempted to correct the problem. eventually i took the old PG to Fatsco's tranny shop in northern new jersey. been over 15 years and 10K miles and whatever Fatsco's did, it sure has cured the oil leak after sitting. mike

The actual leak usually comes from the selector shaft or the kick-down lever seal .
I had Turbomaticc 350 and 400 transmissions that didthe same thing.

My 1950 does not have that problem as there no kick-down lever although it may drip a little when sitting over winter.
In 1950 leakage was the most common problem with Power Glides.
