I have a bell housing with cast number 836387 .Does anybody have an idea what year bell housing it is?

Check your numbers again. 836397 is 1931 pass.

Dick, thanks I rechecked and I can't tell if some numbers are 3, 8 9 or maybe 6. The only positives are as follows 83?3?7. The third number looks like a 6 and the fifth looks like a 9. The rest of the numbers I believe are correct.
The bell is in my 35 pickup. Someone converted if to hydraulic brakes before I purchased it. Everything is 1937 from the trans back. The clutch and brake assembly, with the master cylinder attached to the assembly, bolt to the bell and side of the transmission. The bell number has me stumped. I'm assuming its a 37. The issue is the timing window of the bell, and 35 flywheel BB can't be used to time the engine. I've made my own TDC marks to get the timing close (and it was the only way to get it started). I figured if I knew the year of the bell housing, it might help with figuring out the timing issue and why the BB is off by about 3 to 4 inches.

Just a thought. You are looking at the timing hole on the passenger side of the engine.

Actually, the timing window on this bell is on the drivers side. It has a pointer that looks like a nail and is about one inch square.

Didn't know that. Learn something new all the time. Reason I mentioned it, had a guy looking at the drivers side on a later engine. That is why I mentioned it.

All that I have seen have the timing mark on the same side as the distributor, and that is all brands not only Chev. Tony

My 32 is on the drivers (LH) side and I believe other early six cylinders are the same.
