Yesterday tested my new made vent windows. All fine and the vent gasket fits graet. Its from FDilling but without the Vertical seal.
My brother in law bought years ago some from chevs, but without metall backet(4146804A 33-60) which are probably wrong. How should be installed, only glue is not a good solution. 4106666 40 may be the right one?!

I glued mine in place on four different cars and has lasted for years. Used 3M brand weather strip cement.

When you mount a new glass into the vent frame, do you use the setting tape or only wheatherstrip adhesive?

Andre

The last time I had new wing glass installed in a glass shop they used setting tape only with no sealant. The setting tape was material based and looked like old electrical friction tape without stickum. this was about 20 years ago. I used the same tape to set the glass in the tracks for my door and rear windows.

I bought the tape from Cot40s, on one side it is self adhesive. Looks like this on https://www.hotrodhotline.com/md/html/installing_the_glass.php.
Looks that they don´t use any sealent. In the 1940s manual they use SAE 10 oil so that the tape slides better into the frame and later the filler swills, "making a perfect watertight seal". Does this make sense with the newer materials?

One point to keep in mind for the 3M Weatherstrip adhesive, it comes in a black color as well as a yellow color, which more stores seem to stock.
I always try to get the black tube.

No another year later, it is finally time to install the Vent Window Glass.
Found in another vcca chat the tip with the linseed oil, I will try that.
Unfortunately today i had to realize, that the glass tape isn”˜t self adhesiv any more - not the best Quality from Cot40s smash
Is this a problem? Should i do some sealent between glass and tape, or better nothing?

I never saw or used window setting tape that was adhesive. It it was would not be ablle to slide the glass in place.

use soap water tto lubricate. oil will harm the tape.

Don't use Linseed oil, soapy water is all you need. Gene is right glass tape never was with adhesive.

Of course, the tape is adhesive only on one side. You can also see in the assembly video. Which side belongs to the glass? The rubberized or the fabric side? Why no linseed oil? The tip probably came from an old glazier. the linseed oil probably also ensures a swelling and sticking of the seal
