My battery was 11 years old and I decided to get a new one. When I was connecting it I noticed that it was sparking when I was hooking up the cables. I don't think that is normal. I also thought that if there was a short, that a short could explain why the old battery was draining and the new battery was sparking when I was connecting it. Does anyone have any ideas on how I should approach this problem? What can I check to determine if I have a short or not?
ANY and ALL HELP would be appreciated. THANKS!!!

If you are still running an original style cutout (on the generator) check it first.

I checked the cut out switch. It seemed ok. Headlights where not on, but I'm not 100% sure about the ignition switch. Will charge battery and keep looking for where the problem might be.
