I need more advice guys. In my attempt to remove the trans in my '31 coupe, I've removed the torque tube, u-joint, the shifter and the bolts attaching the trans to the bell housing, but the trans will not come any further than one half inch back from the bell housing. I want to remove it, because I see galling on the some of the gears. My guess from looking at the wear patterns is that the trans would be noisy in 1st and 2nd gears. After removal I will be able to check for bushing and bearing wear also. I didn't have the opportunity to drive this car, since it was in pieces when I bought it, so I want to be thorough as I go through each part of the chassis. Also, I need a source for gears. I see bushings, bearings and gaskets in the Filling Station Catalogue, but no gears. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. This web site makes my hobby a whole lot easier.

You didn't mention anything about disconnecting the clutch peddal and the linkage.

Likely the input shaft is rusted to the clutch plate. If so you will need to pry the trans back to break the bond. If you use too much pressure you will bend the metal in the disc. Wiggling up and down may also help. Once the bond is broken the trans will come out. No need to disconnect the clutch pedal or linkage if they are in good condition.
