Dean With respect I would not entertain the idea of hooking a wheelbarrow to that ebay hitch. All hitches I would use are attached directly to the chassis (frame) of the car, not the rear bumper. Tony
I have a hitch that I use on my '40. It is a bar of cold steel 2 1/2 in. wide x 1/2 in thick and runs from the frame cross bar just behind the gas tank to 3 in. behind the bumper. It is connected to the frame cross bar w/ a 1/2 in. bolt and to the rear bumper center hole w/ a curved "L" bracket (you may have problems here, your bumper is curved more than the '40). I have pulled boats, camping trailers, and one time a Chevy 1970 1/2 ton pickup on a car hauler for about 200 miles (slow struggle on 100 degree day). If I still used it much I would weld loops on it for the safety chains. As it is I have to use a small log chain to hook them to the bumper. Dad had a similar hitch a '36 Chevy during WW !! and we pulled loaded farm wagons and implement trailers with it (slowly). There are sure to be other ideas out there. I remember that they pulled house trailers behind those cars back in the day.
I purchased a 1946 Chevrolet coupe for parts and it had a frame hitch that is very well made or bought . Somebody must have made a frame hitch you could buy ????? I would like to post a picture ,,,can someone help me with simple directions to post picture???
StylemasterMEL sent me some pics of his trailer hitch. I think I have them posted for you to see. He sent a third one but I got tired of waiting for it to load via my squirrel cage powered internet.
Back in '80 I needed to start dragging a light weight tag-a-long trailer behind my '46 Chevy street rod to haul the necessities of a long weekend, lawn chairs, cooler, play pen, etc. I mounted a frame hitch between the frame rails using one of the bumper bracket bolts on each frame rail, with the tongue of the hitch being supported by a bracket curved to fit the back side of the bumper using the center bumper bolt to secure it to the bumper. I also put a bolt thru the hitch securing it to the rear cross member where the fold-down center trunk lock guard originally attached to. I think I had to put a spacer between the hitch and cross member. I don't have pictures, so I hope my description helped.
