looking at the latest email from TFS i saw these hinge mirrors and wondered if anyone on here has them or anything similar. i know the few times i have driven my car i thought how nice it would be to have a side view mirror. that way i would feel safer and be able to see around me a little more.

1928-1936 PASS HINGE MIRROR - ARCHED ARM This beautifully chrome plated mirror arm fits 1928-1936 passenger cars with hinges that are 2-1/4" high, or less. The arm is arched upward to allow better visibility when mounted on lower hinges. Mirror head is made in stainless steel and is 4" diameter. Mirror comes with extra long plain steel hinge pin. Hinge pin must be cut to length. Fits Left or Right.
We also offer a convex mirror head - VT-34X which works well for the right side to increase the range of visibility.
Mounting this mirror requires drilling two small holes into the sheet metal hinge cover for the set screws.
This part fits most 1928 1929 1930 1931 1932 1933 1934 1935 1936 Chevrolet Cars; exceptions may apply. Please read the complete description to see if this part fits your specific vehicle and application.

I thought this looked interesting but wondered about the angle and vibration?
I have seen a couple aftermarket mirrors that clipped onto the drivers sunvisor at the far left end and were angled to see down the side of the car. I figure when I get to this point I might experiment with something that looks period correct and is small to see if a visor position will work rather than damage paint on the exterior. They make small bicycle mirrors and even some that clip to your glasses so figure there must be a way in a 2 door car...

Looking at pictures of restored 29s I saw at least a half dozen different styles, however most seem to clamp either to the top of the door or the front sheet metal. I bought a couple from GW that mount on the front hinge. They have a pin which replaces the top hinge pin, however, the pin is .238" diameter, so I will have to machine a sleeve to make them work. They would be removable if needed but the disadvantage is the two small set screws that would damage the paint on the hinge.
Jerry, I recently bought The Filling Station's straight arm side mirror (# VT-32) for my '32. Very nice quality plating and easy to install. I did need to install a spacer due to my shorter hinges. It provides the essential side view that the pretty but not practical side mount mirrors do not.
Mooneyes Speed Shop California company makes many different styles of side mirrors! This is my Swan Style SST 4 inch mirrors mounted to my body just under my square windshield post on both sides of my 34 Holden Roadster! Plus I reshaped the SST arms to fit my car better! Hey in my book safety is always FIRST!
Does it use set screws ? I saw some that look like the one Bearsfan posted above and the directions say to drill a hole thru the sheet metal over the hinge so the set screws can be secured to the hinge.

That looks like the ones I got from Gary W. Did you put one on the passenger side also? Was the pin .238" diameter? I didn't mount mine because the hinge pin measures .345" and I would need a sleeve.

There is no sheet metal over the hinge on the 29. The mirrors from Gary do have small set screws.
My mirror has 2 set screws but only one grabbed fully due to the shorter, but stock, hinge length of approx 1 and 3/4". The hinge pin diameter measured 11/32". No sleeve needed, the new pin fit fine. I just added a spacer on the bottom to take up the space and make it look cleaner.
I didn't drill any holes into the hinge for the set screws but simply tightened them down through the paint. Seems snug enough.
wonder if you could put a rubber cap on the tip of the set screw, or maybe use that tool dip rubber to coat the tip. that way you could minimize the damage ??
also use either flat nose set screw or a dog point, they would be easier to cap or coat. i would NOT use pointed (cone tip) or knurled tipped ones.

Steve here is a picture of a 32 Chevrolet with the side mirrors attached to the door! Plus just a thought maybe you could add the Swan Style side mirrors to your upper outside cowl area! Just some thoughts! Rory
Yea I just might have to do that. Not anxious to poke holes in the sheet metal but the inside mirror is close to useless and at my age (75) the old noggin doesn't turn as it used to. Not a problem here in the sticks but some of the six cylinder tour areas are a challenge.
