Does anyone have any information on whether export Chevrolets (in my case, specifically to South Africa) had colors other than the standard US colors that you find in the literature and paint chips? The green on my Sedan Delivery does not appear to be anything like either Silver Gray Green or Liveoak Green. Both of those are metallic. My green is slightly lighter than the Silver Gray Green and it's not obvious that it has any metallic to it. The photo will give you a little idea as to it's color. Thanks for your help!

Dale, is this green the original paint on the car? Is there a plate on the firewall with a paint code number? If you could find that number someone here in Canada might be able to tell you the info you seek. Apparently many of the export models were made in Canada. Do you know where your Chev was made?
Yes, this is the original paint. Don't know if it's all cars from South Africa, but mine does not have a firewall tag that shows paint information. Instead they put on a tag that talks about valve clearances (see attached photo). Very strange, but that's what it has. Since GM had an Assembly Plant in South Africa, I'm assuming the cars got painted there.

Seeing that the tag is held on with sheet metal screws do you think it might not be factory installed? Also it does not look like the "std" style tag plate-almost as if it were cut out from somewhere else..
What color is that firewall? That should bethe color of the original paint....or the vehicle could have been painted a commercial color for business use.
I readily agree on what the firewall tags look like for US cars. I think this firewall tag looks crazy too, but in my original post on my Sedan Delivery last year I got this post:
Hi there decarter not sure if this is of interest to you? I came across your thread by accident whilst trying to find out numbers of SA assembled vehicles. I have a 1948 RHD sedan delivery FAN262431 XGOFS177490 here in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
I later asked him if his firewall tag looked like mine and he said it was identical. My firewall was originally the light green like the inside of the rear door. Someone had poorly painted some black paint on the firewall (and on the inside of the door jambs for some reason), but all the hidden areas and untouched areas are the same green color. Will probably just get my paint shop to see how close we can get without a paint code...
