Has anyone taken the Spare Tire "J" hook off of their outer tire cover? I want to know if there is a spring of some sort under the metal backing that is riveted to the cover that puts tension on the hook when it's locked in place...pictures would be great if you have them!
That's just the way I thought it would be...is it OK for me to share your picture with another member that I've been helping? He's missing both of these and is talented enough to make his own replacements.
If he needs the anti-rattle/guides I'm sure he will make them, he's a very handy guy that loves to tinker in his little shed shop and two car garage he shares with his wife's modern car.
Mike, I have a 35 Master metal spare tire cover, I think. I have a 35 Standard. I bought it because I was told it was for a Standard. The wheel fits in perfectly. The only difference is the hole for the hub cap. The Standard hubcap just fits inside the hole, where the Master hub cap sits on the edge of the hole about 1/2 inch all around. I notice that this holds the cover tight against the wheel.

Peter,
The 1935 Master cover has a large center hole to expose the wheel. If your cover has a small center hole and the wheel is not exposed, just the hub cap, than it's for a earlier year.
