I have a freewheeling transmission and I would like to know if it is a 1932 or 1933.
Hope that someone can tell based on the serial number (CN40431) stamped in the case.

The casting date is hard to read and could end with a 2 or 3. My best guess is A 23 3, but I'm really not sure.

I bought it as a spare for my 1932 Chevy but have sold the car and now want to be sure about the spare parts so I can offer them for sale.

Thanks,
Tom

The transmission case and freewheeling case were the same for 1932 and 1933. Some of the internal pparts in the freewheeling unit were changed for 1933 but a complete unit for a 1933 can be installed in a 1932. The 1933 and late 1932 transmissions have the so called silet second gear rather than the noisey early style straight cut second gear and will make a big improvement.
I agree with your decoding and the trans. came from a 1933.
