A quick calculation indicates that is about a 15 gallon tank.

that would 11 gallons USA and 8 Gallons Canada, because we used the Imperial measurement before the government made us switch to liters in 1970-s.

USA smartly decided not to switch and cost everybody tons of $$$$$ to conform.

I still think in gallons and temperature in Fahrenheit .

11 US gallons equal just over 9 imperial gallons.

A google search says 9.15942 imperial gallons. Something is wrong somewhere.

Close enough, especially since the tank sizes are likely not totally accurate anyway.

A google search showed a third gallon measurement - US Dry gallon. The numbers on that gas can are likely rounded though what we have been subjected to for decades living in a Metric wannbe country connected to an Imperial country. When you have many 2-stroke engines they get burned into your brain but "close enough" works.

Do you mainly use litres in Aus? Could there be a variation in the gallon there too?

Prior to metric we used imperial gallon which converts to 4.45609 litres and the American gallon is closer to 4 litres but I am not sure of exact conversion.

Interesting. Thanks Tony. Bit different than what we used here. We were 4.55 litres in a gallon. 3.7X litres per US gallon.
