I have a NOS starter switch Group #2.100 part #1996040. Looks like the one for my 50 Fleetline but it is #1996055. My Master Parts catalog doesn't list that earlier number. Any ideas?

The part number for that push button switch was changed several times since 1949.

Thanks for the replies. I've seen these switches with plastic button but both these have the metal one.

They went to plastic in mid 1951 due to the Korean war.
