Hey everyone I'm struggling to find the quatervent window mold part for my 37 cabriolet anyone able to help me out with some detailed measurements, pictures, stencils or even sell me the part? (Part is pictured in link below) thanks in advance
Now that we know its a FISHER BODY made in USA that makes the start of your search easier.
First thing is place a WANTED ad in the wanted section on here, you do not currently have one.
Hemming's Motor News in Bennington Vermont , publishes a monthly BOOK up to 400 pages last I saw , filled with ads, sell, buy, wanted. In the 1911-1954 Chevrolet section.
Place a wanted advert with your email so people can contact you .
Its a FISHER BODY , north American molds and stamping equipment, they are all the same........USA CANADA and anything exported from either Canada or USA toooooo Australia is the same..
Cars were shipped to Australia as C K D.........=.Complete Knock Downs , re-assembled on the HOLDEN assembly line with Holden main body and its peculiarities .
Only thing that's different is if the body was made by HOLDEN.
Complete assembled USA and Canada built FISHER BODY cars were exported & shipped to Australia ready to run.
Going to restore it and put a 235 in it with twin superchargers and a over drive, my 37 cabriolet is a Fisher body(orignal RHD) do u know if the mold that I'm after is only for cabriolet or can I use a coupe or sedan one? Sorry if the question seems dumb just their arnt many Fisher bodies in Australia I can look at
Holden did build a 37 Cabriolet (roadster). As a result it would be most unusual to see a RHD 37 Fisher bodied car. Certainly I have never seen one in the 25 years I have been involved. I have a 38 Roadster which is the same deal. I presume that your car has arrived here at a later date from New Zealand or South Africa. Very few Fisher bodied cars came to Australia. Basically the cars came from Canada as a mechanical package with a few pieces tossed in. They appear the same but are quite different. For example the Mascot is the same but the bonnet strip is a different profile.
Preston Motors of Melbourne did advertise cabriolets in 1938 but they were Holden body roadsters fitted with wind up windows. There is a genuine 1938 Fisher bodied cabriolet on the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane. This is a fully restored car and came out of New Zealand. It is owned by a member of the Vintage Chevrolet club of Australia. The car in question is a right hand drive car that came out of Argentina some years ago.
I very much wish I could help you find those items. Fact is the cabriolet is so rare today that the parts cars have been striped of cabriolet specific parts or restored. Are your parts missing or broken? I was lucky with my 38 that even though it was very rough, most cabriolet specific parts were there and were fixable.
Nobody I personally know has a 37-38 cabriolet Chevrolet. Your best bet is to purchase a pair thru finding a pair on here or ebay or hemmings motor news.
The parts book I have is for Chevrolets only. Maybe Pontiacs or Oldsmobiles or LaSalle or Buicks used the same casting ???? Your going to have to find that out and if so widen your search amoungst the GM brands . You need to find somebody with an INTERCHANGE BOOK I guess.
Some years ago I started looking for a 37 or 38 cabriolet. I searched the VCCA roster ( at that time it was a paper book ) and I think I found 20 or 24 members listing one. You might try contacting those members directly in hopes of finding one under restoration for a pattern. I dought anyone would be willing to remove a pair from a finished car. When I did mine, it was a very big job to disassemble then re assemble after chroming. I do have photos if that would help in any way. Hope you can find a set.
I have some you might be interested in, best to email me direct Keitay54@charter.net These were re cast from a set of originals quite a few years ago. I bought them from a fellow in Minnesota, Dick Morgan, he re cast them and some other cabriolet parts. I bought them in case my originals could not be chrome plated.
