New owner of a 51 station wagon, need to replace my starter, parts store has starters for a 235 will this work? The only number I can find on my current starter is 940.... car has been switched to 12 volt

I have not had much to do with the 235 engine but have seen those that have say they are different and wont interchange. As for the 12v conversion while ever you dont crank the engine for long periods (which overheats the starter) the 6v starter is rather sturdy.

You also posted the same question in the 1949-54 forum and you have received several answers there to your question. If you haven't seen them go here: https://vccachat.org/ubbthreads.php...r-fie-216-and-235-engine.html#Post410658

I did , I was told I might get a better response here on one of my previous questions so I thought I would try again.I decided to get my current starter rebuilt so as to eliminate any additional problems. Thanks for your response/help on this.
