At some point, somebody mentioned where he purchased 29 brake proportioner springs for his '29. I checked with the FS and Billy Possum but no luck. Any ideas?
Thanks

I did get an old set from one of our members, however one broke when I just happened to walk by the car. I got another set I believe they were from Gary Wallace, however they were not supposed to be for 1929, but they were identical to the 29 as near as I could tell. I am not home now so cannot check my records, but give Gary a call and see if he has anything with the same dimensions. If I can find anymore info when I get home I will let you know.

Yes, I worked with a local Spring Manufacturer to get them custom made to match CLOSE to the original ones I pulled off, as you can see in the pict. We have adjusted the Leg length to match original ones, the pict was first run, and shows extra long legs to run through spring machine BEFORE cutting to length. These Springs are same wire diameter, but have a more PULL. Overall Length is 10.25" from end of loop to end of loop. I am happy with them. they are pretty taught and goes in snug, Be careful when installing!! Works great on the Brake Return !!

If ANYONE is INTERESTED, I can order a set of 2 and ship them to you (most anywhere in lower 48) for $20. . Now if I buy in bulk, and order 15 or more (7 sets) then the price drops and should cost about $15 per set shipped. More I order the cheaper it gets ! wink I will order them, pick them up then ship them out to you :)

I would be interested in two sets shipped to Canada for adjusted cost? I can wait to see if you can get a quantity discount.

I know there were certain similarities between the 29 - 31 models - I was wondering if the proportioner springs were used on the 31 models? I do not seem to recall them on my 31 when I restored it many years ago. What were their purpose?

Never too late to learn something !

the springs pull the proportioner rods (brakes) back to neutral position, releasing the brakes. on the 1929 there are two (2) proportioner rods, then rotate in opposite directions of each other.

1929 Proportioner Rods
1929 Proportioner Rods Ends

when you push the pedal it pulls the rods towards center extending the springs, then when you release the brake pedal the springs compress PULLing the proportioner rods back to neutral, releasing the brakes.

In 1930 they went to one (1) proportioner Rod, believe the return spring is inside under the car, think after that in 31/32 used similar to 1930 concept just changed configuration a little. 1929-1932 a lot changed, even the little changes had big impacts !!

I purchased mine from Gary Wallace a couple of years ago. They do have to be bent to fit but not a big deal.
