I have just bought the correct accessory governor for my 1936 truck. I plan to install it, non functioning, as an appearance item. It will raise my carb about 1-1/4 inches which will require lengthening my carb linkage.
The governor is coming with it's original box which does not appear to be big enough to have originally contained a longer throttle rod. I will make a longer rod as needed, but I can't help but be curious about the original parts required for the install.
Does anyone have a truck with an original governor, or a set of instructions for installing a governor on a 6 cylinder Chevy of the 30s/40s era?
Thanks.

Mike

In the 1930's Chevrolet offered five different brands on governors. I have some info. for 1939 and a King-seeley brand and no throttle rod is mentioned.
The 1941 parts book lists at least a half dozen different throttle rods for governor applications. Leads me to think the Gov. its self fit various makes of engines and you had to order the rod for the application and it would not come with the Gov.

Gene,
Thanks for jumping in.
Here's a little more info. This governor is made by Leibing. It has a brass tag on the side with the Chevy Bow Tie and comes with it's original GMt Accessory box. It is exactly the one pictured in the accessory section of my 1936 Truck Gold Book.
It seems to me that if it is being sold by Chevrolet dealers to be installed on Chevrolet vehicles that it would include everything needed for the installation.
Maybe I am wrong about the size of the box, but it does not appear large enough, in the eBay photo, to have had the throttle rod inside when new.
Here is the link to the closed auction https://www.ebay.com/itm/183084980535.
I couldn't resist such a rare accessory. It's lonely out here when your a big truck fan. We have to take our thrills whenever an wherever we find them.
BTW, I have a King-Seeley governor for '39 and '40 trucks. It also has the Chevrolet bow tie.

HI I have a governor assembly that I took off of my 33 pick up . I will look but I am sure that there is a short adaptor that extends the original throttle rod.

George,
Thanks very much. That is the info I'm wanting. I would appreciate it very much if you would check it out for me.
Is your governor the GM accessory or aftermarket?

Mike,
MY governor is made by the Roof Mfg. co. It was on a U.S. dept of interior pickup. It would be easy to replicate the adaptor.
I can send you a pic. and some dimensions. I also have the vacuum plumbing I will send a pic of that also.
I was amazed to see how much mine is worth.

My governor came today. It has a short length of vacuum line attached. I suppose it goes to the port on the carb and the line presently on the carb is re-routed to the other port on the governor. I do not plan to have the unit functioning so it is not important other than my curiosity about such things. I am very interested in how they handled the lengthening of the throttle rod.
Looking forward to seeing some pics from George.

Are you going to be able to install it and not having it work.

I don't think it will be a problem. The throttle plate in the gov. is open as long as no vacuum is applied. If it causes trouble, I'll take appropriate measures.

Curious on how it works out, there was one on a 41-6 in a junkyard and it would get people today wondering what it is.
