What are the physical differences between the 35 and 36 water pumps and the years preceding and following. My 35 has a replacement block cast in 1938.

Loose Rocker,

If you can use it I have a NOS 1936 water pump repair kit. It is left over from restoration of my '36 PU in the early 1970s. If you have a '36 here's how to put 3.55 gears in it:

If it is a 1935 block the lower portions of the cylinder barrels will e exposed on the left side. Also the water pump, which fits 1935 only will have a baffle behind it that is pressed into the block.
The 1936 block does ot requie the baffle and the 1936 water pump has all different parts than a 1935 and the impeller is larger. The 1935mimpeller is larger than the 1934 and prior.
If a new block was installed dated 1938 it would be a 1935 block . Should have a casting number of 837591 to verify it is a 1935 block casting.

The engine is a nos replacement short block in the original gm crate when received sold to me in 1975 for a '35. It has the full water jacket and casting #868010-3. It has a cast in place baffle and whatever water pump I had on hand. My original question was to help consider how to improve the system.

You will need a '36 water pump for that engine. There is no upgrade that I know of. 1937 is a completely new engine with no significant parts interchanging.
If your car (?) is a '35 Standard, you are wrestling with a woefully inadequate cooling system. Voice of experience here. Specialty radiator shops can build a better radiator for you. A truck fan will help some.
