Does anyone know if the connecting rods are the same for 216 and 235 blocks up to say 1948

Yes, they are the same. 1937-1947 are the same and 1948-1953 are the same. The 1937-1947 is wider and has thicker babbitt.

What year did the 216 change to slipper rod bearings or is that an aftermarket modification. The set I have are .050" narrower than the babbit type but seem to be for the same crank diameter. Tony

The 216 was only dipper. the 235 was first with inserts.

The 235 had dippers until 1953.....the exception is the 1953 Power Glide engine had full pressure oiling. 235 engines also used the same crankshaft as dipper 216 engines.

Thank you. It seems I have a set of modified rods or a later 235, the rear main bearing cap is a 4 bolt where the 216 is only a 2 bolt. I havent looked at any numbers for definite id. Tony
