Looks like one of the water pumps on my wife's 50 Ford is starting to leak. The have been on since 1975.Seeking opinions on whether or not to change them both now or just the leaking one & wait for the other one to leak? I do have NOS replacement for both sides but they have been on my shelf since mid 70's. Do I take a chance on them being OK or do I shop for more recent rebuilds? I realize I will take some flak for asking advice on a non Chev vehicle but....
Thanks; Dick

I would replace both at the same time. If the seals are as good as what Chevrolet used I wouldn't worry. My 1950 Chev. still has the original pump. It may be a good idea to add some rust inhibitor and water pump lube to be nice to the seals during break-in. And yes, I would take NOS to todays rebuilt.

Thanks for your reply. Upon looking at the ones I thought were NOS I find they are remanufactured ones that I bought in the 70's. Does that change your advice ?
Thanks; Dick

In that case I would replace just the leaker.

Dick, A good rebuild is as good as a NOS. I disagree with Gene here. I think his advice with the notion that your pumps were NOS was good and should be followed with the NORS. Mark the good take-off and toss it in the trunk. Toss the bad one in your recycle can and watch it go down the road. Best, Charlie

I agree with you Charlie, except he won't know if it was a good rebuild until he installs it. If it was an OEM rebuild then it should be fine but other than that it depends on who the rebuilder was.
