Finally got around to changing the clutch and pressure plate in my 47. Started before Xmas but had to stop as had to have some hand surgery. Anyway changed the clutch and Pressure plate and when I got to the vacuum shift canister I cannot find one of the covers { cup type looking} for the linkage and shifting rods. I will search the garage for it {the outside cover} as I cannot imagine where it went but if not able to find it is there anyone out there that has a extra cover set?? I would be more than happy to compensate anyone properly.or can it work without the covers on it?

Found what I believe you want. Metal cover, 2 halves, rubber boot goes over the open end to protect from the elements.
To answer your question about not using one. I would think all should work without it.
If you want this one (used but nice)give me your name & address.
I'll try to ship Mon/Tue. Upon receipt of the pkg and it is what you want just send me a check for whatever it is worth to you. If it isn't just ship it back. Glad to help a fellow 47 owner.

Note to all 39-48 owners with the vacuum shift:

a. You don't need the "clam-shells" or the rubber boot.

b. Why? They were developed to help prevent premature wear of the piston and linkage from road dirt and grime. There were a lot of dirt roads back then. There are relatively few nowadays.

c. If it is convenient, put them on. If not, leave them off. The vacuum shift will last a long, long time without them in place and work just as well without them.

d. If you have a show car, by all means, put them on (both "clam-shells and rubber boot).

You're welcome,

Charlie computer

BTW: I submitted this once. Don't know where it went.

I received them the other day and exactly what I needed. Thank Yoy so much and will put something in the mail for you. Still have some trouble with the new clutch and pressure plate as It does not go into gear like it should. Reverse is even worse. I am not too familiar with this issue so the guy that rebuilt the tranny said he will come help me trouble shoot it.
