So I traded a 28 rim in exchange for a couple of 1928 rear axle saddles. The fellow that had them pointed out that one saddle is 1/4" taller in the foot of the casting than the other. It has a crown so as to fit on top of the spring and follow the curve of the spring. I know they are angled so that one side will not interchange with the other so I am not sure if it is the passenger side that is taller or the drivers. Has anyone else found a difference in height on these saddles? Should I have the tall one machined down so they are the same height? If it is the drivers side it might have been to slightly compensate for the crown of the road, but you wouldn't think 1/4" would make that much difference. Any thoughts?

No I do not believe you should have them machined to the same height, I have read that the saddles were of different height to compensate for the torque force pushing the torque tube off line.
