Does anyone have information on headliner for 34-36 high cabs. Does anyone sell kits? Anyone have patterns? I see Jim Carter sells material but I don't think it is pre-cut.

I know this is an old post, but he didnt get a response so I thought Id try again. Are 34-35 headliners available?? If not I have a complete, intact original in the truck Im going to restore. I thought if none are available I should be careful with it and take pictures and disassemble it carefully so as to make patterns?? Pls let me know if you have any info on these headliners. Mark,
You should definitely take good care of your original headliner.
I believe Jim Carter would be very interested in having a template from it. I will contact him and tell him your chat contact info.
I made a HUGE mistake by destroying my original headliner from my '36 low roof. I thought new ones were available. It is different from the '37-'38.

I did replace my original headliner, too! The purpose of the headliner is to direct the wind from the open windshield over the driver's head and onto the back of the head and shoulders. To smoke a cigar while the "No Draft" ventilation works. The curves of the headliner direct the air flow. There are instructions on how to install a new one. Properly wetting the new one before installing will allow it to bend properly. It really is easier than you might think after all it is 1930's type technology. I used several paperboard sheets taped together to get a template from the old one. That way you can make a practice run at fitting and trimming/installing it without using the replacement until you gain confidence. Good luck.

Mike, also it is not made of the hard "board" stuff like a 36'. Not sure what you would call it but its softer with several metal "bows". Let me know it you talk with Jim C.

I spoke with Jim and he IS interested. I will PM his contact info to you.
The headliner in my '36 low roof is made of a material more like a thick tar paper than the cardboard that is currently available. Also the grain on the original headliner and kick panels is nothing like that on the current material. The grain is more like a miniaturized and finer version of the grain found on the top material used for Fords of the T and A era. My '35 Standard has this material but it is not correct.

I would like to see some photos. I do not text. I have a flip phone with a screen the size of a postage stamp.
You can post them to chat or email them to me at ml.russell@mchsi.com

Jim,
Thanks for the photos.
I would guess that the metal strap system at the rear is something added by a previous owner. This might also be true of the flat "roof portion" of the headliner. The front and rear panels look correct to me. They should be green. I thought that all the parts were made of the same material. Do your kick panels match the front and rear roof panels?
I will try and remember to call Jim Carter tomorrow.

Mike, try as I might, I could only see black on all the headliner pieces. The kick panels and cardboard in the rear corners of the cab are green though. Also the original seat material under the later seat recovers was green. Are you saying that all the cab soft parts are green even on red or blue body colored truck?

It is my understanding that all soft parts were green, no matter the exterior color of the truck.
I had a '35 truck and all remains of soft stuff was green. I do not recall what all was there.

Where does all this end up as of now? The pickup I’ll be restoring will need a headliner.

Roger Sorensen in LaCrosse, Wisconsin restored a '35. He would be a good guy to ask. I'll call him and see if I can get him to chime in. I'm pretty sure he made his own headliner.
