Did they ever make a Chevy script under-hood (firewall mounted) oiler can?
What is the correct oiler can for the '24 touring?
I have seen plenty different brand names and types of oilers and was just wondering if one is "more correct" than any of the others.
There is an original oiler mount on my firewall but it is pretty bent up. I hope I can straighten it to look right but if not I also have a new one that I think was ordered from a F--d parts supplier. It looks like the same thing to me.

Mike, I believe this to be a correct oil can bracket for the 24. My car has a wire bracket that I have seen on older Chevy's but because it was on the car when I got it I decided to leave it as it appeared to have been original. I know Gary Wallace carries the correct bracket but unsure if he carries the oil can. My car also had what appears to be the original oil can as well and it has no scripting on it.

Guess you included the vacuum fuel pump photo by mistake. The oil can bracket has a 90 deg. bend with a couple of holes in the vertical part to mount on the fire wall. The horizontal part is flat with a couple of corners turned up on an angle to held the base of the oil can. There are two springy arms that fit on on the top of the oil can to secure it in position. Don't have a photo handy.

Isn't that the holder in the lower right?

Ray is correct, did not have a close up of just the holder but if you look in the lower right hand corner of the photo you can see the oil can holder... Will try and upload a photo from my car showing the spring loaded clip that Chipper mentioned.

Darn, missed it what with the shiny vacuum tank taking my attention. Now that you guys point it out I can kinda get a look at it.

I believe Chipper is referring to the early oil can holder which is made from bent wire, with a pressed sheet metal bracket in the centre. The bottom wire forms a loop , and then come back up under the bracket, and the two loose ends of the wire then forms the clips which holds the oil can in place.

As promised, here is what I believe to be the original oil can and holder on my 24 Superior Touring.

I think Chipper want to know what the part above the oil can holder and slightly to the left and mounted on the fire wall is from. It has G G Vacuum Tank on it. I could be wrong.

I don't think so, I think he just missed the bracket in the lower right corner. Chipper knows these cars better than most of us!

I sure did miss it on the first look or two. I do know the older Chevys fairly well but there are a few that know them better. I don't always look closely at the photos. I am amazed that others point out stuff I should have seen but didn't.
The good thing about this forum is that there are several knowledgeable folks and many sets of eyes to get all this stuff straight.
