Watching the B.J. auction, seeing all the SIX and SEVEN figures that are being bid, car after car.

Am I just the poorest car guy on the planet or are ALL the richest 1% of our population gathered together at Barrett Jackson on this Saturday ?

Bob,

Well, I get your meaning but I doubt the 1% are well represented. Some maybe.

Anyway, most are well off enough to want a certain car to take home and put in the garage, To show to friends or maybe drive on some occasions or in a car show or parade.

Some are buying for others who are well heeled.

Some foreign money, too, I expect.

A good menu speculators, also, who are helping they are bidding low enough that the market will produce a hefty profit in another market or after a few years of sitting on the car.

I wish I could be well off enough to sit there and bid freely to my hearts content.

I think for next year, I go to the bank, cash in my home, lock, stock, cars too, and barrel and get a letter of credit and go to B&G and see if I out bid on something like that 1930 Chevrolet popcorn truck. It went for 30K I might be able to barely afford something like that.

After all, money is just a detail. Agrin

Charlie computer

BTW: I wonder if any of those three that won the lottery were there. If, it were me, I would be. wave

I agree with your statement.

I guess it's true that money can't buy happiness, but I'm betting each day could appear more "sunny".

You guys are right money cant buy happiness but it does make life a whole lot easier and comfortable.
I dont follow the auctions but by the prices that have been posted on chatter I would that multiple lottery wins and robbing several banks would be needed.

Tony,

Maybe I could buy something on day one or two of the auction, if I was planning on a 50K ceiling.
I follow these auctions, just to dream, but I have not seen such monumental prices.
Barrett Jackson is not the place for Joe Six Pack.

I see John Stallupi bought one of Burt Reynold's Pontiacs used for advertising for $500K so I guess I'll see it here in town at Stallupi's Cars of Dreams Museum in North Palm Beach Florida…Billu38

As B & J was starting I watched it one morning before work when a very nice restored 30 chev sedan delivery went across the block for 20k Probably a 30 - 40k restoration. A model A roadster right behind it went for 35K The chev had disc wheels and the MC was saying how ford was behind the times still running wire wheels. Didn't have a clue as to what he was really seeing in regards to the delivery or the wheels. The buyer got a real bargin, just hope such a rare car does not end up as just another hot rod.

You can hear comments that don't fit the vehicle being auctioned, but, then again, they see a trainload of vehicles go through there. Hard to be correct on all of them, I would say.

There were three Corvettes crossed the auction block, 1955/56/57 and all three had serial number ONE, They were auctioned off as a set of three, not to be separated. The bidding was hot and heavy for awhile but the gavel dropped at $1,650,000 and the buyer turned out to be Rick Hendrickson from Hendricks Motor Sports. That is quite a feat to get those number one cars. And they say money can`t buy happiness, well when the camera scanned his face after the final bid he certainly did not look sad!!

Truth is, I would like some BIG cash, so I could tell for myself, if money buys happiness.

I was confused when those 3 were being auctioned off. I also understood those 3 to be serial number 1, but then Mike Joy spoke of THAT VERY '56, as being the "number one" with dual quads.

Number one serial number or number one with dual quads ?

I can't stand it when the price stalls on one of their cars, they almost beg for more money,or try to shame the bidders into paying more.As for auctions, I like Mecum Auctions. They are on the block no longer than 2 minutes and the next one comes up.Let's face it ,if you go to an auction, you want to get the best deal you can.

Yes the first ~700 1956 Corvettes were "loaded". My understanding that nearly all the first 700 had dual quad carbs. I have # 399 produced in early March and it has the dual quads. Also has the early manifolds (intake and exhaust).

Have you noticed at B.J., that some cars fly through the auction process, while other cars stay and stay, until the last nickel is drawn out of the bidders.

I guess the length of time on the auction block depends on how influential the seller may be.
