canuck,There is most likely a tumbler frozen in the lock cylinder. They are spring loaded by very tiny springs and to remove the key the tumblers need to move up and down to follow the contour of the key.It may free up by soaking in a penetrating oil.The lock cylinder is made of pot metal and they corrode-not rust-But PB Blaster may work the best. There is a total of six tumblers so if its been setting for a while more than one may be stuck.Good Luck
