I need to get a restored 1930 Chev moved from Minnesota to Washington state. I've been looking at different shipping companies on the internet and there seems to be quite a few. If anyone has any recommendations, warnings, tips, tricks, etc on having a vintage car shipped I'd be interested to know.

It's been quite a few years since I required this service but I used Reliable. The least amount of a hurry you're in, they can work you a better price....Joe

When I ship my old cars it is always in a closed van only. Also, I've found a lot of these so called transportation companies are really just brokers who add on a hefty fee and use a local transport company near you. I haven't shipped in quite a few years so my experience with any one of them might no longer be valid. Sometimes they are good and then a year later all hell breaks loose, they change drivers, etc. and the service level is inconsistent. I'd just do some internet searches and see what current customers say. Any review older than a year should be discarded in my view. The companies that specialize in transporting antique cars or high value cars are usually a lot more expensive, but maybe worth it depending on your car. Watch some of the car shows, like Chasing Classic Cars, and see who they use. Good luck.

I had a car shipped from Salt Lake City to Rochester, NY, several years ago by an independent company and had good luck but it has been so long, I no longer have any information on them. I had another shipped from Vassar, MI, to Rochester, NY, in September 2012. I used a broker and again had good luck. I did some on-line comparison shopping. The broker was very reasonable and in fact, credited me with a $10.00 rebate on my credit card which he very well could have kept. I wasn't in any hurry but he found me a hauler two days later. The only problem was, the hauler did not know how to start an old car or drive a standard shift so the seller and I had to do that for him. The broker I used is located in CA and can be reached at 1-800-600-3750 or email info@autotransportdirect.com. Both cars were hauled on an open hauler but if I had a professionally restored car, I would have opted for an enclosed trailer. The best advise I could give would be to do a lot of research, homework, and check out prospective haulers. Beamer

I shipped two, both by independent private parties, great people, great service, door to door, no swapping or changing of trailers, drivers, etc...

Also dealt with reliable, also a great company and service

I shipped about 10 cars in the past 5 years and have used a broker, same one each time. Everything was on time and as planned. Open or closed depends on the car you are shipping, also the time of year is important. I used Checkered Flag (310) 437-9588 he is in California. I was very happy each time.

AVOID TRYING TO GET A PRICE FROM ONE OF THE ONLINE SITES YOU WILL GET A LOT OF CALLS FROM BROKERS TRYING TO BROKER IT OUT TO OTHER BROKERS...... WASTE OF TIME

Also I had put the car on my insurance prior to transport, hey you never know.....

Stay away from a company called "NTA Motorsports" or a guy named Nick Bradshaw. Bad bad experience with him shipping my 31 to Flint from Calif.
