Since I sold my '48, I deleted the photo of that as my Avatar and wanted to put the photo of my '38 back on as my Avatar. However, it is in jpg format and now you can only use gif or png formats. Pardon my ignorance but how does one get these formats? Beamer

Download & install Irfanview. You can edit and convert virtually any image to any other image type. It's free and I love it. I've been using it for ages.

Tiny,
Thanks for the info on Irfanview.
How do you set up rotating images as your avatar?
Thanks, Dean

That's an animated .gif. Irfanview might make them now but it didn't used to. I did mine on line. I-View CAN convert .jpg to .gif but it wouldn't assemble them into the animated form. Here's a thread in the IView forum about IView & animated gifs. It seems there's freeware available that will do the job but I've not used any of them.

I downloaded Irfanview, got the photo of my car in it, changed the JPG to GIF, downsized the photo to under the 100 x 90 pixel maximum, got the location of it in My Stuff in the Avatar section, and submitted it. All that came up when I checked one of my posts was a square the size of the Avatar with a red plus mark in it - no photo! I ran through the whole thing again and verified the photo was shown with the extension GIF and was within the size parameter, submitted it and got the same thing. By then an hour had passed so I gave up. I guess I don't really need an Avatar. Beamer

You might try using a remote hosting site. I didn't upload mine directly but instead put it on Photobucket and use the PB link in my profile for my avitar. It's been a while but if I remember right I had an issue with trying to do the direct upload thing as well.

Tiny, Thanks. Didn't think of that. I already use Photobucket so I will upload the GIF formatted photo and give it a try, probably not today though. Beamer

Hey Tiny, As you can see, your suggestion worked! Thanks! I will be asking for a lot of help from you, and others, on the '38 Forum soon as I intend to get back to work on it after a too long absence. Beamer

Just so you know, I've been working on this. I found that the program is saying that the folder for avatars is "locked". But when I look at it in two other ways, they all say that it's "unlocked" or "writeable".
So -- I'm trying to figure this out. It's like having two wives.
For the time being, you can't upload an avatar. You can only LINK to one.

This worked for me tonight!! And I tried it on two different JPG's.
The trick was after you select the FILE NAME, you also have to ADD A CHECK to the DOT (or Open Circle, or Bullet, or whatever you want to call it). Then click SUBMIT.
Please try it.

I was able to get my Avatar changed, but for the future, I don't understand "add a check to the dot". Can you show me an example? Beamer

I just tried it Bill and it was a piece of cake! I've been trying to change my Avatar ever since I sold the delivery, over two years ago. Now I got to work on that animated thing. Jay

If you have Photobucket, you can upload your pictures to the smallest setting, and then link them into our avatar box here on the site and it will work.
