I am in the process of rebuilding my steering box on my Chevrolet 1930 . They where 2 ball thrust bearing with sphered housing washer ( they are both broken ) . I cannot find any number on the bearing and when I measure them I cannot find anything close to this , I have look in NTN SKF and Timken nothing. Also I went in 2 different bearing shop and they have nothing that look like these thrust bearing . Are these bearing are oem in these steering box ? If not what is going in it ? Or is somebody have fit something else in there ?

Thank you

Check the Filling Station catalog either paper or online. If you don't find the parts you need then call them and ask. They know the 1930 Chevy parts business better than the rest.

The bearings for your steering box are definitely OEM and due to their construction the bearings are always broken. The bearings have been discontinued for many, many years and they are almost impossible to find today. The Filling Station doesn't have the 1930 bearings due to their scarcity.

Some fellows have found modern bearings of the correct size that will work and then they have machined their steering boxes so that that replacement bearings can be installed.

Try contacting Vintage Auto Parts Inc.:

http://www.vapinc.com/

I obtained a set of thrust bearings for my '30 Coupe from them a few years back. I had heard they may be out of business now, but their web site is still up. It might be worth giving them a call.

Happy Motoring,

Thank you ! This is what i tought about the thrust bearing .... can you tell me if they have fit thrust bearing or tapered roller bearing ? I have found 32004 taper roller bearing that may fit there . I'm not sure that installing thrust bearing is the best !

The link that Dan has posted to vintage auto parts is showing the steering bearings for 1927 to 1930 for sale at 39.95 a kit.
