I feel it may be time for an introduction of myself. I hate talking about myself, but others on here may find some value in my experience. Bryan Toedtli, born/raised in Vancouver WA, currently residing in Beaverton OR. Some may recognize my last name, as my father has been a member of the VCCA since almost inception - Vern Toedtli. I was raised in an autobody shop and I first picked up a paint gun at 8yrs old. I didn't actually attempt my own bodywork until I restored my 57 VW Beetle - unfortunately circumstances forced me to sell car that in 2008. I was certified as a DuPont Automotive OEM Paint Repair specialist in around 2002 and worked for my dad's body shop for a few years. However, other members in this chat forum have commissioned me to do their paintwork - Bill Barker's 31 Landeau, Ray Holland's 28 Cabriolet, and my best friend Bruce Deford's 34 Sedan. I've done a few others too, but the list is too long.

My current of autos includes a completely original (unrestored) 1973 VW Type 3 Squareback, 1950 Belair project, 1964 Malibu driver (2nd owner since 1990), and most recently the 1937 Chevrolet (Seagrave) Firetruck that I purchased from the Ardie Overby estate. My fiancee and I are super excited to get started on the 37. The Belair will have to wait a little while longer...

I'd be happy to provide paint advice as best as I can, however, it's no longer my profession and is now just a hobby of mine. For work, I am a CAD/BIM Detailer for a large Portland-based electrical contractor.

Cheers all!
Bryan

Welcome to Chat Bryan!

Impressive introduction with your obvious skills in paint work and all!!

That ol' Squareback brings back fond memories as I was working for VW in those days. Great cars with only a couple of bugs in the early fuelies.

Jim.

Thanks! Yeah, my SB still has the original FI in it. Runs like a champ! I've got some problems in the tranny at the moment that I've got to figure out, but all in all a pretty nice car. I keep the original paint polished and waxed, that old lacquer shines like no other!
