You guys who built your own, what alloy and thickness Al sheet did you use over the wood frame? I see old plans that specify sheeting, but we have different alloys now. Thanks, Norm

I have a 1927 Chevy Capital AA 4 Door also a 1927 Chevy Touring car, a 1936 Chevy 1/2 ton and a 2010 Corvette LT3 Convertible and a 1953 Packard Caribbean. My tow car is a 2011 Suburban.

1/16 " thick sheet 3003 alloy , is what the metal shapers use due to is shaping and welding ability.

I found some 4 x 8 sheets of 5052 0.032 thick (21 GA) for $44 ea. in stock. I will not be welding, just bending over the wood frame. The smallest radius is 4".

5052 is an Aluminium alloy with Magnesium as its main alloying element, It should be fine for what you are doing. Flat sheet on the body may vibrate and drum a bit more than "shaped" sheeting.
