WOW looks like a good buy. Didn't know the coupes had the speed lines from fleetline, Looks to be a 235 engine that's a plus, pressurized Bearings, Looks to be fairly solid. Be a good car for someone.. I bet it won't last long...

It is the lowest priced Styline coupe that someone atached the Fleetline fender mouldings to.

What about the 41 SD coupe for sale on ebay? 28K is a steal for that car.

As to the 48, I wonder how much more the owner would want without the Fulton?

It will take $20,000 to make that coupe a decent car. Good street rod material.

Be cool to just get it safe and leave alone most of the cosmetics....save the patina

Uncle Ed,

It would take more than the difference to bring the 48 up to the looks, quality and standards of the 41. Believe me on this.

I noticed that the heading for the initial post listed the "with visor" like it was a big plus. Did you get a good look at that thing? Uglier than a sack full of "a" holes.

Another thing about restoring a car is the difference in what one ends up with. I wouldn't put the same money in restoring a bottom of the line as I would in the top of the line. The instant 48 is the bottom of the line. And, that is all you would end up with. Bottom of the line. The 41 is top of the line and all it would need doing to it is TLC. Enough to keep one busy enough these days.

Stand by for the clock. Agrin

Haha, OK Charlie.
I guess we don't agree on body styles as I really don't think a 41 is any prettier than a nice 48 Fleetline but I do have to agree that the coupe shown is the plain Jane of the production year and the deluxe models would be more desirable to restore. That car with a coat of paint and some new upholstery would make a fun "driver" car.
I'm not anti Fulton. I remember as a kid an awful lot of cars had them on so they look kind of natural to me. That being said I have 2 of them hanging in my shed but do not have any on my cars and don't plan to.
BTW I prefer the cars of the 1930s to the cars of the 1940s. Agrin

I think you are right chef. The side brackets don't look like the typical Fulton hardware.

I think it's just Charlie's obsession with Fultons crazy

Not way it's mounted...Looks more like a "Pecket" But, it looks like a model I don't recognize...Probably would look better with out it...Just doesn't seem to look right...Mine are those "perforated" stainless type...Ya know...Little tiny holes...Fultons, I find to filmze, being aluminum and all...Also, I don't like drilling holes in the body...

Gee, Uncle Ed...Maybe you should list the Fultons on eBay...Big market...If their pretty they fetch about $500 bucks...More if their mint...

Don't know how "keen" I'd be on a car that comes without an air filter...But, for $3 bills...? And, it's still running 6 Volt...

I gotta say though, I'm with Uncle Ed...Need to go back a couple more years...Tiny's got a good year...Like those little side 5 coupe windows...I bought mine on a whim, because the price was right...I'd driven other '30s and I thought they handled like boats, but I realize now it was just their suspensions...

Let me clear the air on outside the windshield visors. The word/term "Fulton" used by me includes all such visors. Fulton was just an example of the multitude of manufacture's of such eyesores.

I do like factory looking visors on some 49-52 models but they are much better styled than the Fultons, et al.

Back to the 48 coupe. Would that car look right with a banjo type accessory steering wheel? Or, would that be tantamount to lipstick on a pig?

Leave the patina, install pair of decent bucket seats, Chassis Engineering front and rear suspensions, engine and trans mounts, a nice small block and Turbo 350 from a donor car, S-10 or Nova or Camaro rear end and doing the labor yourself you'd have a decent cruiser for probably under 10 grand including the cost of the car. I wish I had the room, it'd look good sitting between my chopped '46 Fleetmaster 4-door and in-progress LT-1 powered '48 Fleetmaster convertible. The Banjo wheel would be a great addition.

Please don't tell me that you're not restoring a 48 convertible but rodding it instead.

Before you bought it , did the previous owner get you to swear on a stack of Bibles that you would not hot-rod it?

I encourage you to re-think your intent and restore the car to original like conditions. It may not be worth as much and not receive as much attention, but in some circles you will be doing the right thing. Look at Dale's car.

Your call, though.

Think of the money rodding will cost ( and down the drain ) you'll probably never see that money again...Plus you already have most of the parts to keep it original...

I know this may be hard for some to accept but yes I am street rodding a '48 cabriolet. The body will be unaltered, well except for the frenched headlights and taillights and rear license plate in the trunk lid. Bolt-in Mustang II front end, power rack and pinion, LT-1 backed by a 4L60E trans and a 10-bolt Camaro rear and with four wheel disc brakes. Caddy tilt/tele column, Cadillac CTS front seats (18-way power) and A/C. The previous owner had rodded it with '54 235 with twin carbs, Fenton headers, Saginaw 4-speed and the aforementioned Camaro 10-bolt. I truly appreciate a restored car but I've been a hot rodder since the '60's and the engine bay of a '40's Chevy just screams "fill me up with a V8". I sold the 235 to someone building a '51 Fleetline Barris style custom.
One of my friend's Dads, "Doc" Hattenhauer, who was a member of the VCCA told me back in the '70's when I was starting to street rod my '46 Fleetmaster that he and other restorers loved us street rodders because we got rid of the parts the restorers wanted.

RE: Doc Hattenhauer. That is a name from my past. Traveled with him and a group from lower Mich to the Anniv meet at Colorado Springs in 1976. My wife & I were traveling alone in our 47 Fleetline and stumbled upon that group somewhere in Nebraska. They sort of adopted us and we joined them for the remainder of the trip. Had a great time. I still have the same wife and car. Love them both.

So Charlie you are putting the Fulton Visor in the same class as the Hoover Vacuum Cleaner...Fulton thanks you

all vacuums are Hoovers
all Visors are Fulton's

I will take this as a rare compliment, I knew you would come around, all the Fulton trash now forgiven
