Does anyone know who might have a set of factory style trunk lid props? I have tried Chevs, I and I, Filling station and one other place i cant recall off the top of my head right now. All are out of stock. Any help is appreciated.

Ebay. I see them listed although rarely. When they do list they usually sell for more than I'd want to pay. If you didn't already, get on I&I's list to be contacted when they are back in stock. What usually happens is they wait until they get enough "orders" to make it pay before they contract with their fabricator to make more. Back to the ebay bit. If you see someone parting out a '38 coupe, contact them even if they don't have a set of props listed. You can sometimes strike a deal saving the seller listing & selling fees and saving you money.

I have one from a late '37 coupe which used the same design support as the '38. It is in very rough shape so may not be worth using, but the big spring and pivot seem okay. I also have a rough trunk lid from the same car and I think it can be repaired.

Please send a PM if interested and I'll take pictures.

You need to replace the springs.

Think of every way possible that an EBAY seller might describe these in the subject line and do several Save Searchs on EBAY..

You will get an email every time anyone post what you are looking for. That will give you 7-10 days to bid or my favorite Snipe Bid.

I see these show up several times a year on EBAY... Many rodders convert to another method of trunk lid support.. so they are out there.........

Good helpful post my modiol. The only caution is when bending the tab up to release the remnants of the broken spring be very careful. The tab can break off and give no warning before it does. If you do happen to break it don't panic. Clean the surface where the tab held the spring and the spring itself where it will contact the support. Lightly abrade both surfaces. Put a dab of epoxy on the spring or support then put the spring in place as shown in modiol's post and let the epoxy cure.

In fact I'm beginning to think that's a better way to attach the spring anyway. I replaced both springs, one the 'old' way and one using epoxy because the tab broke on me. The one I repaired the old way broke again but the one I used epoxy on has been doing well for several years now. I think the pressure from the tab concentrating in that small area helps the spring to work harden there and break where the dab of epoxy allows more flexibility over a larger area preventing that.
